Transitioning to Net zero through Open Energy Solutions

The UK has set ambitious decarbonisation targets to reach Net Zero 2050 in line with the aim to limit global warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. Transitioning to Net Zero presents significant challenges to the existing energy system including grid stability, storage requirements, flexibility, efficiency, meeting peak demand and the requirement for more robust infrastructure. This transition will not be possible without proper insight, coordination and planning across the energy system.

Open Energy fosters an approach to underpin this, currently focused on improving data accessibility, visibility and governance, with early development of new technologies and solutions that respond to core objectives.

Schneider Electric sees the power of the Open Energy system and this competition is focused on developing and demonstrating use-cases for Open Energy across a variety of sectors that will be required to change and adapt to Net Zero 2050.

We’re looking for technologies and solutions related to Open Energy in a number of verticals that can leverage Schneider Electric’s unique position as a key player in these markets.

The 2020 Net Zero Home Programme saw 3 out of 4 programme participants progress to commercial contracts with Schneider Electric, namely a paid integration with the Wiser smart home solution, resulting in a significant uplift in sales pipeline and global expansion opportunity.

We’re looking to replicate this success in the Open Energy Programme 2021.

The Schneider Electric and Sustainable Ventures teams are fantastic, and we’ve enjoyed collaborating with organisations who share our mission to decarbonise transport. The Schneider partnership has already helped ev.energy to grow globally, and we’re excited about what we can both deliver through our continuing collaboration in the years ahead!
